Decibel's Biography

Decibel was formed in 2003 when guitarist Kanishk and drummer Krishnan came along with an idea of forming a band while pursuing their college. Kanishk persuaded his old friend Rahul to take up the role of lead guitarist in the band and Krishnan asked Karthik (then playing guitars) to take up the Bass guitarist's role.

Krishnan's home was the place to jam and, in his living room they started off by playing Iron Maiden, Metallica and Megadeth covers. Search for the vocalist ended when Ananth (Still Waters) decided to move to New Delhi and join the band. Decibel's first show was IIT Delhi Blitzkrieg 2003 prelims where band received good support in their first show and later that year played at The Mezz (Pub Gig).

Soon after, the band entered a dormant state when Kanishk left for US to pursue higher studies and Ananth went back to his hometown. During this (frustrating) period Krishnan and Karthik were still hopeful of reviving the band and it was only after two years of exile the new Decibel was born again.

Siddharth (guitarist), Ripple (guitarist) and Vijay (vocals) joined the band and brought the band to the current form and the sound that is the mixture of Thrash Heavy Metal and Progressive/Technical Rock. With Siddharth leaving the band to pursue higher studies, Decibel decided to recruit a keyboardist instead, to play covers of the band that influenced them the most – Dream Theater.

The current lineup comprises of Krishnan and Karthik from the original lineup. Ripple on guitars and Naman on keyboards. Rajiv is the new vocalist for the band.

Though Krishnan, Karthik and Ripple are recognized in Indian Rock circuit for their technical proficiency, Decibel has just got a distinction of being one of the best Progressive Rock act in the country. Decibel is planning to release their first album by first half of 2008.
